The Traditional Anglers of Pennsylvania is dedicated to live bait fishing and equal access for all.  We will continue to promote, protect, and preserve all waterways of Pennsylvania.

Dear T.A.P. Members:

Since December 1999, the following has taken place:

With no replacement trout, and heavy losses due to low and warm water, our annual winter stocking of Benscreek and Noel's Creek had to be cancelled.

Once again Mother Nature has played her tricks on us. She gave us a warm and dry winter causing T.A.P. to cancel the Youth Ice Fishing Day at Lake Rowena. We'll try again next year.

T.A.P. is an active member in the Forest Hills Trout Co-op. The annual raffle and prize give away was a huge success. The Co-op fund raiser is to generate money for all the expenses needed to raise the trout that are stocked in local streams.

Cambria County Water Conservation Officer, Christ McDevitt, spoke at our April meeting. Discussion on the fishing at Lake Glendale and the problems the fish commission is having at the Huntsdale Fish Hatchery were the main topics. We thank Chris for coming to our meeting and doing a great job at T.A.P. sponsored events.

T.A.P. held its annual "Kids Free Fishing Derby" in May. With over 300 kids fishing, once again it was a huge success. Over 700 trout were stocked for the kids to catch. Many prizes were handed out for the fish that the kids caught. T.A.P. would like to thank all the people who helped make this event a fun time.

Once again the Traditional Anglers of Pennsylvania held a "Casting and Fishing Demonstration" at the annual Portage Summerfest. T.A.P. entered a float in the annual Summerfest Parade and placed third. The kids won two nice fishing rods for hitting the bulls eye on the target. Well done volunteers!

Ninety-three kids showed up for the Youth Field Day sponsored by the Portage Coalition of Sportsmen. A variety of shooting events, outdoor demonstrations, and an afternoon of fishing for trout, gave the kids a full day of outdoor fun. T.A.P. is an active member of this organization.

Chicken Bar-B-Ques were held on selected Saturdays by T.A.P. The bar-b-ques were held on Rt.53 across from the bowling alley. Signs are placed along main street letting everyone know when we are cooking chicken. This is a big fund raiser for T.A.P.

T.A.P. voices its opinion on on-going opposition to the loss of fishing waters to live bait fishing.

A grant for the clean up of Trout Run was sponsored by T.A.P. Called "Trout Run Improvement Project" (T.R.I.P.) Grant. If approved it would be the first of its kind to help restore this stream that flows through the borough and township. Lets hope that this is the beginning of the end to the acid mine drainage that flows into Trout Run.

T.A.P. has on-going affiliations with the following organizations: PA Clean Ways, Stoneycreek Conemaugh River Improvement Project (SCRIP), West Branch Susquehanna Rescue, Conemaugh Valley Conservancy, Pennsylvania League of Angling Youth (PLAY) and Portage Coalition of Sportsmen.
